Who writes it
Boutique Hotel Matlai is a six-room hotel in two villas at Michamvi Pingwe, on the south-east coast of Zanzibar. Asili House opened in May 2012; Villa Kidosho was added in 2015. It is run day to day by Tim Hennig, the general manager, who lives on the property — so what you read here comes from someone who watches this beach every morning rather than from a copywriter working from a brief.
That has a bearing on what you will and will not find. We will tell you that seaweed lands on this coast on the spring tides and that no hotel here can promise otherwise, that the sea goes out far enough at low tide to change your plans, and that our own accessibility is limited. Those are the answers we would want if we were the ones booking.

A note on what we publish
Everything here is checked against what we can actually verify before it goes up, and corrected when we get it wrong — the beach description, the excursions we recommend, and our own opening months have all been rewritten as we learned more. Prices move, seasons shift, and a post written two years ago can quietly stop being true. If you find something here that no longer matches what you saw, tell us and we will fix it.
