Oceanfront dining

Dinner metres from the water.

Zatiny is one oceanfront restaurant with two kitchens: the Zatiny kitchen cooks Indian Ocean fusion — the day's catch, Swahili spice, Mediterranean and European plates, while the Duyên kitchen prepares authentic Vietnamese home cooking. Every table can order from both menus at the same meal — pho beside grilled lobster, spring rolls beside coconut curry. Hotel guests dine on half board; travellers from beyond Matlai are warmly welcome with a reservation.

The restaurant sits directly on the sand at Michamvi Pingwe, on Zanzibar's quiet east coast — about 1 hour 15 minutes from the airport. Read more about dining at Matlai, or make an evening of it with a Bustani Spa treatment before dinner and a look at the villas if the tide convinces you to stay. Lunch runs from midday, dinner from 6:30 pm; sunset drinks at the beach bar need no booking at all. For private dinners, celebrations and groups above eight, message us and we'll build the evening around you.

Parties larger than 8, private dinners on the beach, or special occasions — message us directly on WhatsApp and we'll arrange it.

One restaurant, two menus. Zatiny's Indian Ocean fusion and Duyên's Vietnamese dishes are served at the same tables — order freely from both.

We confirm by email — usually within the hour. Same-day requests: WhatsApp us.

The two kitchens

Zatiny stands on the sand under a makuti roof. Duyên is the Vietnamese kitchen, cooked by Kim herself. Guests from outside the hotel are welcome at both: the kitchen closes at 22:00, with last orders at 21:30.
