This page covers two different things people mean by accessibility: whether this website works for you, and whether the hotel does. We would rather tell you plainly than have you find out on arrival.
This website
We build to WCAG 2.2 level AA. Every page is static HTML that works without JavaScript, is navigable by keyboard, declares its own language, and is checked automatically on every single build — colour contrast, heading structure, form labels, link and button names, and duplicate identifiers. A page that fails those checks cannot be published, which is deliberate: accessibility written as a one-off audit quietly decays, so ours is a gate rather than a report.
What we know still falls short
- The booking engine is operated by a third party (eZee) and is outside our control. If any part of it blocks you, write or send a WhatsApp message and we will complete the booking with you directly, at the same rate.
- Some blog articles migrated from our old website contain images whose descriptions are shorter than we would write today. We are working through them.
- Videos are hosted on YouTube and carry its captions, which are automatic rather than human-checked.
The hotel itself — an honest answer
Matlai is not a fully wheelchair-accessible hotel, and we will not claim otherwise. Wheelchair users have stayed here and it has worked well, but that depends on knowing in advance.
- Book Villa Kidosho. From the entrance into the villa, a wheelchair can be used without difficulty.
- Two routes are not step-free: the way to the restaurant, and the way from the balcony down to the sun terrace and pool — a step down, without a railing.
- For those, your butler carries you in a purpose-built carry chair. Tim built it for his grandmother’s 90th birthday here, and several guests have used it since.
- The bathroom is workable but not fully adapted.
- Please tell us what you need before you book, so we can talk it through honestly rather than guess.
