Bustani means garden — and that's where you'll find it, between the villas and the palms. Maryam and Zhu work with the island's own ingredients: the signature Matlai Massage with garden-pressed coconut oil (60 min, 235,000 TZS), the Konokono massage with warmed ocean shells, and the herbal wooden-bathtub ritual guests talk about long after the flight home.
Walk-ins are welcome; in high season, ask your butler to book a day ahead.

The ritual
The wooden bathtub, drawn with herbs
Picked from the garden, steeped until the water turns gold — the herbal bath is Bustani's signature. Take it after a massage, before a private dinner at Zatiny, or on the afternoon the tide is out and time is yours. Guests staying at Villa Kidosho have the garden a barefoot minute away.

Bustani Spa — questions guests ask
The menu runs from full-body massages (119,000–235,000 TZS) through facials, scrubs and foot rituals to the wooden-bathtub baths — coconut oil, lemongrass, clove and cinnamon throughout, most of it grown or made on the island. Sessions are taken in the open-sided garden pavilion, in your room, or on your terrace; the full price list is in every room and at the wellness overview. Payment goes directly to the spa — cash, card, or a Pesapal link in advance.
Do I need to book ahead?
Walk-ins are welcome every day between 09:00 and 18:00. In high season, booking a day ahead through your butler secures your preferred time — the last slots of the afternoon go first.
Can couples be treated together?
Yes — with two therapists on-site, partner massages run side by side on two beds. The Romantic for Two package (649,000 TZS per person) bundles a floral bath for two, a 60-minute aromatherapy massage and a facial each, and a candlelight dinner with sparkling wine.
What is the herbal wooden bathtub?
Herbs picked from the hotel garden are steeped in a hand-carved wooden tub until the water turns gold. Three baths are on the menu — the Swahili Herbal Bath, the Floral Spice Fusion and the Cleopatra Bath — each starting with a foot massage and ending with a 30-minute full-body massage (399,000 TZS).
How long are treatments?
Massages run 30 to 60 minutes — full-body treatments are 50 or 60, shorter head, foot and back massages 30 to 40. Prices range from 80,000 TZS (head or foot massage) to 265,000 TZS (the Bibi Harusi bridal scrub), and booking three massages earns 10% off.
Can visitors use the spa without staying at Matlai?
Priority goes to hotel guests, but outside visitors can usually be accommodated — message us on WhatsApp and we'll find a time.
Can I gift a treatment or pay in advance?
Yes — the spa is Maryam's own business and payment goes to her directly: cash or card on the day, or a Pesapal payment link in advance. A pre-paid massage or bath ritual is a favourite birthday and honeymoon surprise — arrange it quietly through the butler.
Is the spa suitable during pregnancy?
Tell us first, always. The therapists adapt pressure and positioning for expectant guests, skip the treatments that don't belong in pregnancy, and steer toward the gentler menu — the foot rituals and facials carry a babymoon beautifully. Your comfort call beats any menu listing.
Do you sell the oils and products used in treatments?
The ingredients are mostly the island itself — garden herbs, coconut oil, spice-farm cinnamon — but the take-home version exists: the Mwani cooperative's seaweed skincare from your welcome soap can be bought through reception, sending the souvenir money straight to the village women who made it.

The full-body classics run 50–60 minutes: the signature Matlai Massage with garden-pressed coconut oil at 235,000 TZS, the Aroma Therapie at the same, Deep Tissue at 185,000, African Wood at 159,000, the circulation-focused Zanzibar Massage at 145,000 and the lemongrass Mchai Chai at 119,000 — book any three massages and 10% comes off. Shorter fixes run 30–40 minutes from 80,000 TZS (Indian head, foot and lower leg, the back-neck-shoulder De-Stress at 120,000), and the Herbal Foot Retreat starts at 69,000.
The bath rituals — Swahili Herbal under Mbono leaves, the clove-and-cinnamon Floral Spice Fusion, the milk-and-honey Cleopatra — come as the 399,000 TZS combo that opens with a foot massage and closes with a 30-minute full-body. Facials, scrubs (Zanzibar Spice, Tanzania Coffee or Sea Salt) and men's treatments run 145,000–199,000; manicures and pedicures from 99,000. The facility itself is small and complete: two side-by-side massage beds, the two hand-carved tubs, a rain shower and a full bathroom — and every treatment travels, because the portable bed reaches any room, balcony or pool terrace in the house.

When to book what, in practice
The spa's day has its own tides: mornings run quietest (walk-ins usually land a bed), the post-beach 15:00–17:00 stretch fills first, and the final slots before the 18:00 close are the ones to book a day ahead through the butler, two in high season. Couples wanting the side-by-side beds plus a bath ritual should claim a full afternoon block; solo treatments slot around almost anything. Payment goes straight to the spa — cash, card, or a Pesapal link for treatments gifted from home — and in-villa bookings simply add the therapists' short walk with the portable bed to wherever your afternoon already is.
